Betty Lou Bangerter 1919 - 2012

Betty Lou Bangerter, 93, died July 11 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center in Great Bend. Born Jan. 2, 1919, in Formosa, she was the daughter of Charles and Ona (Steichelman) Alderson. Betty moved to Hoisington in 1931 where she was the co-owner of Howard’s Furniture until 1982. On Sept. 25, 1938, she married Howard Bangerter in Bushton. He preceded her in death. She moved to Great Bend in 1995. Betty enjoyed traveling with her husband in the RV, solving puzzles and sewing.
Mrs. Bangerter was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include 10 nephews, Jerry Sears of Liberty, Mo., Richard Looney of Overland Park, Larry Alderson of Dallas, Texas, Jim Sellens of Wasilla, Alaska, Tom Rose, Chuck Harms, and John, Charles, Mike, and Phillip of the Link family; 10 nieces, Joy Smith of Lake of the Ozarks, Mo., Pat Miller of Davenport, Iowa, Judy Harman of Austin, Texas, Janice Westrum of Monument, Colo., Jayne Klir of Denton, Texas, Jolene Boys of Great Bend, and Lana Jo Shur, Linda Lighty, Terry and Karen of the Link family. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Barbara Clark; grandson, Christopher Clark; one brother, Ross Alderson; and four sisters, Opal Plummer, Neva Heusner, Merrill Looney and Helen June Sears.
Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Great Bend with the Rev. Phyllis Flory officiating. Interment will follow at Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30-10 a.m. Monday at the church. Memorials may be given to Kans for Kids in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.nicholsonrickefh.net.
