Bonnie (Garten) Shaffer, 81, passed away March 4, 2020, at Hays Medical Center, Hays. She was born on Dec. 7, 1938, at Sun City, Kan. to Guy and Marian (Trotter) Garten. She married Jack Shaffer in 1966. He passed away in 2005. 

Coming from Meade six years ago, Bonnie was a Great Bend resident and a graphic designer. She was a member of Heritage Baptist Church. She enjoyed painting and playing the organ. Bonnie especially enjoyed spending time with her family.  

Survivors include, a son, David E. Smith of Great Bend; a brother, Bob Garten of Wichita; and a sister, Vera Wood of Citrus Heights, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack Shaffer; a granddaughter, Patricia Kathleen Smith; and three brothers, James Garten, Glenn Garten, and Dale Garten. 

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 7, 2020, at Heritage Baptist Church, Great Bend, with Pastor Ken Gray presiding.
