Bruce N. Furrey 1946 - 2018

Bruce N. Furrey, age 71 years, of Great Bend, Kan., passed away on Tuesday afternoon, June 26, 2018, at his home in Great Bend after a lengthy illness. Bruce was born on July 14, 1946, at Parsons, Kan., to Fred and Cecelia (Gale) Furrey. He was a lifelong resident of Great Bend, Kan., except for a brief time in Texas and Wichita in his early life. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1962. He married when he returned home and he and his wife had three children. They later divorced. Bruce was united in marriage to Carol Crowley on May 25, 1996, at Great Bend, Kan.

He spent most of his adult life in various positions of the trucking industry, including an over the road truck driver, a safety consultant, and a manager. He also owned Compliance Solutions and Consulting Services from 2006 until he was forced to retire for health reasons. Bruce was totally dedicated to his job, whatever he was doing. He took great pride in his work and was very good at it.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Carol Crowley-Furrey of Great Bend, Kan.; two daughters: Rachell (and her husband JD) Davis of Crete, Neb., and Lisa Funk of Claflin, Kan.; one stepdaughter, Laurie (and her husband, Doug) Linsner of Great Bend, Kan.; three grandsons: Alex (and his wife, Jacque) Armstrong of Hoisington, Kan., and Luke Martin and Jayden Martin of Wichita, Kan.; three granddaughters: Shaila (and her husband, Tyler) Jones of Great Bend, Kan., and Sierra (and her husband Bradley) McGinnis and Shyanne Davis of Des Moines, Iowa; one step-granddaughter Megan Keener of Great Bend, Kan.; five great-grandsons and three great-granddaughters; four sisters: Darlene Jones, Lisa (and her husband, Herb) Phillips, Phyllis McCormick, and Bonnie Furrey, all of Great Bend, Kan.; two brothers: Mike Furrey of Great Bend, Kan., and Doug Furrey of Longview, Wash.


Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; a baby sister Gayle Ann Furrey, two brothers-in-law Jerry McCormick and George Crone; a granddaughter Shelby Davis, and a son Bruce N. Furrey, Jr. in 2016.


A Memorial Service to celebrate Bruce’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2018, at Charter Funerals in Great Bend, Kan., with Pastor Larry J. Schumacher officiating. According to Bruce’s wishes, cremation has been chosen. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in care of Sunflower Diversified Services of Great Bend, Kan., or the American Cancer Society.
