Charles LeRoy Chuck Backman 1932- 2011

IUKA – Charles LeRoy ‘Chuck’ Backman, 79, died Tuesday, May 10, at South Wind Hospice Home in Pratt. He was born April 9, 1932 in Cleburne, the son of Wallace Theodore and Ethel (Johnson) Backman. On Jan. 22, 1956 he married Sondra G. ‘Sandy’ Strait. She preceded him in death on May 4, 1997. On July 4, 2001 he married Mary Ann ‘Frostie’ (Frost) Russell, she survives.

Chuck served in the Air Force as a Master Sgt. For 23 ½ years until he retired. He lived in Iuka since 1980 and worked at the Iuka Coop. He was a member of the Iuka Methodist Church.

He is survived by three sons: Wallace Backman of Iuka, Keith and wife Tina Backman of Iuka and Steven and wife Trish Backman of Silver Lake, two daughters: Karleta and husband Blain Fox of New Town, N.D. and Kathy and husband Jay Russell of New Castle, Colo.,; a stepson, Jay Russell of New Castle, Colo.; two stepdaughters: Ginny Harris of Leawood and Kim Frisch of Washington D.C.; a brother: Wayne Backman of Louisville, Kent.; 11 grandchildren, Dani Russell, Chris Backman, Justin Backman, Emme Russell, Casey Backman, Dylan Backman, Abby Russell, Sondra Fox, Charla Fox, Lauren Backman and London Backman; five stepgrandchildren, Megan Harris, Kirk Harris, Alex Harris, Aidan Frisch and Madeleine Frisch. He was preceded in death by a sister,Thelma Bishop.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial service with military honors will be Saturday, May 14 at 2 p.m. at the Iuka Methodist Church with Reverend Isobel Stein presiding. Private inurnment will be in Iuka Cemetery, Iuka.

Memorials may be made to the South Wind Hospice Home, Iuka Methodist Church or Pratt Area Humane Society in care of the mortuary. Friends may leave condolences for the family at www.larrisonmortuary.com.
