Christy Smith, 49, died Feb. 22 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. Born May 22, 1964 at Travis U.S. Air Force Base Hospital in Fairfield, Calif., she was the daughter of Wendell H. and Mary (Brocher) Smith. A Great Bend resident since 1971, Christy was employed as a residential home care provider for Rosewood Services. She enjoyed animals, movies, reading, and sharing her wonderful wit and sense of humor. She particularly enjoyed helping others, always identifying with those in need.
Survivors include her mother, Mary Smith of Great Bend; two sisters, Janelle Smith of Great Bend and Allena Thorp of rural Great Bend; nephew and nieces, Marcus Adams and his wife Brenda, Keagan Thorp, and Taran Thorp; and former brother-in-law, Tim Thorp of Kinsley.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at First Southern Baptist Church in Great Bend with the Rev. Dr. Doyle Smith officiating. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to Sunflower Early Education Center or Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of the funeral home.
