Colleen Nell Riegel 1929 - 2012

Colleen Nell Riegel, 82, died Oct. 7 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. Born Nov. 29, 1929 in Dodge City, she was the daughter of George W. and Mae L. (Dooley) Fowler. In 1947 she graduated from Dodge City High School and in 1951 from Emporia State Teachers College. She received her Masters degree from Kansas State University in 1979. On Feb. 14, 1954 she married Jerry Manford Riegel in Dodge City. He died on Dec. 3, 1978. A resident of Great Bend since 1952 she was a home economics teacher for Unified School District 428 for 28 years. She loved to bake and make candy, travel to Colorado and go four-wheeling.
Mrs. Riegel was a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey M. Riegel and Jay Allen Riegel, both of Great Bend; two sisters, Mariellen Rhoades of Hamilton and Georganne Hiser of Coppell, Texas; one sister-in-law, Cheryl Fowler of Cimarron; three grandchildren, Jason M. Riegel, Abra N. Riegel, and Bryce E. Riegel; and two great-grandchildren, Jonah M. Riegel and Jude Riegel. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lu Anne Riegel; two brothers, George Fowler, Jr., and Donald D. Fowler; and one sister, Evelyn Sutton.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the First Christian Church in Great Bend with the Rev. William F. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at the Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may visit from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, all at the Bryant Funeral Home.
