GREAT BEND — Darren David Schloemer, 48, died July 16, 2013 at his home in Great Bend following a well-fought battle against cancer.
He was born Nov. 2, 1964 at Great Bend, the son of Donald Dwight and Nadine Marie (Kottwitz) Schloemer.
He married Annette Jennings May 6, 1995 at Great Bend. They later divorced. The lifetime Great Bend resident was an equipment operator specialist for Kansas Department of Transportation. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.  He enjoyed demolition derby, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, hunting, fishing, cars, welding, and spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchild. He was also a foster parent to many children.
He is survived by a son, Tanner Schloemer of the home; a daughter, Courtney Bortz, Great Bend; two brothers, Darwin Schloemer and his wife Marty, Great Bend; and Denton Schloemer and his wife Becky, Ulysses; a sister, Karen Shaner and her husband Dale, Great Bend; nieces and nephews, Damon Schloemer and wife Donna, Lakewood, Wwash.; Devin Schloemer, Lyons; Brandon Schloemer, and wife Brandi, Salem, Mo.;                                         Megan Tammen and husband Cal, Kansas City, Mo.; and a grandchild: Ryler James Bortz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Marie (Kottwitz) Schloemer; a son, Cody David Schloemer; a brother, Douglas Schloemer; and two sisters, Debra Schloemer and DeLila Schloemer; and grandparents, Henry and Minnie (Fischer) Kottwitz and Harvey and Maudie (Hall) Schloemer.
The funeral service is scheduled at 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend with The Reverend James A. Strasen officiating. Interment will be at  Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Great Bend Public Library or Kans for Kids to benefit Camp Hope, in care of Bryant Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
