HOISINGTON — Dean Steiner, 78, died Thursday at Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita, Kansas. He was born Dec. 3, 1931 at Hoisington, Kansas the son of Louis and Lenora (Ummel) Steiner. A longtime Hoisington resident, coming from Odin, Mr. Steiner was a retired employee of Kansas Wildlife and Parks at Cheyenne Bottoms, retiring in 1992. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Steiner was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1521, American Legion Post 286, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7428, all of Hoisington. He served as VFW Commander from 1986 to 1988.

Survivors include: one daughter, Alicia Steiner, Hoisington; one brother, Merle Steiner and his wife Loyola Steiner, Hoisington; and one sister, Mildred Siebert and her husband Kenneth, St. John; daughter of the heart, Tracey Swalley, Great Bend; and grandchildren of the heart, J. J., Janessa, Jocelynn, and Wyatt.

The Knights of Columbus Rosary will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Father Ultan Murphy will be celebrant. Inurnment will be at St. John Church Cemetery, with military graveside rites by VFW Post 7428 and American Legion Post 286. The family will be present for the visitation from 5 to 8 p.m, Tuesday, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Wildtrust Memorial Fund at Cheyenne Bottoms or VFW Post 7428, both in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.
