HOISINGTON — Dennis Thummel, 65, died Sept. 1 at Country Place Assisted Living, Hoisington. He was born Sept. 2, 1944, at Englewood, Colo., the son of Walter and Eleanor Korte Thummel. He married Shirley Packard on July 20, 1965. He was formerly of Brighton, Colo. He was educated at Selden and served in the U.S. Navy. He managed cooperatives at several locations in Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri and Colorado. He was retired.
Mr. Thummel was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, Lions Club and St. Augustine Catholic Church.
His hobbies included woodworking, yardwork, boating and activities with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Thummel, of Brighton, Colo.;a son, Bill Thummel and wife Karen of Colby; a daughter, Shelley Gotchall and husband Don of Great Bend; three brothers, Wayne "Tom" Thummel and wife Pat of Nashville, Ind., Steve Thummel and wife Glenda of Liberal and Joe Thummel of Altus, Okla; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by is parents and an infant sister.
A vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Pauls Funeral Home in Selden. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Sacred Heart Church in Selden with the Rev. Dana Clark officiating. Inurnment will be at the Selden Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to a fund for the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center in Boulder, Colo.
