Great Bend, Kan. and former Wallace County, Kan. resident Dolores P. Medina, 87, passed away on November 23, 2021 at Azria Health Nursing Home in Great Bend, Kan.
Dolores was born on Dec. 9, 1933 in Chacon, New Mexico to Roberto and Abelina (Gonzalez) Torrez. She was one of eight children, three brothers and four sisters. The family moved to Olney Springs, Colo. where Dolores and her siblings attended school and had numerous stories about growing up in the Arkansas Valley.
On Sept. 22, 1951 she married Jess Medina and to this union five children were born, Rita, Jess, Sara, Norman and Celia. She enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren and attending ball games and school activities.
Dolores worked at the Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Sharon Springs, Kan. for 17 years starting in 1981, earning her Medication Aide Certification in 1986 and continued working until 1998. She retired and moved to Great Bend, Kan. She enjoyed watching her KU basketball and Denver Bronco football games with her little dog Magoo in her arms and let everyone know not to call her until the games were over!!
Preceding her in death were her parents; a daughter Celia Jane Medina; one son Norman Gary Medina; three sisters; and two brothers. She is survived by her children Rita (Dennis) Smith of Weskan, Kan., Jess (Carmen) Medina of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Sublette, Kan. and Sara (Gary) Pletcher of Great Bend, Kan. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law Cindy Medina of Salina, Kan.; one brother Cipriano (Mary) Torrez of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister Gloria (Mark) Kreidler of Sunnyvale, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.
Services for Dolores will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be designated to Wallace County Community Care Center (formerly Prairie Manor Nursing Home) and may be mailed to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N.
