Donald E. Lang, age 77 years, formerly of Great Bend, Kan. passed away at Life Care Center in Burlington, Kan. on Monday evening, Sept. 9, 2024. Don was born on Jan. 9, 1947 at Great Bend to William “Otto” and Mary (Rider) Lang, and graduated from Great Bend High School in 1965. He served in the US Navy from January 1966 to November 1968 aboard the USS Bennington in the Pacific during the Vietnam era. He started Lang’s Electric as a Master Electrician in 1983 and also worked for Great Bend USD 428 for over 20 years, retiring in 2012. Don was a member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #1127 in Great Bend, and was a longtime member of the Church of the Nazarene in Great Bend. He enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, wildlife photography, and hiking and walking.
Survivors include three sons William “Ray” Lang of Las Vegas, Nev., Brian C. Lang of Great Bend and Ryan Lang of Denver, Colo.; two daughters, Mara (and Dustin) Mattheyer of Ellis, Kan. and Jennifer (and Shawn) Nemnich of Ellsworth, Kan.; 24 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; his former wife Debrah Boger of Great Bend, with whom he remained close friends; one sister Mary Beth (and Mike) Bolyard of Pratt, Kan.; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Gwen Hipp in 2012 and his brother Alvin Lang in 2021.
Cremation has been chosen and a Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. The family has requested that Memorial Contributions be made in care of the family for later designation.
