OTIS — Donald Wayne Schlegel, 73, died Oct. 4, 2022, at his home in Otis, Kan. He was born Nov. 9, 1948, in Great Bend, Kan., the son of Samuel and Margaret (Lebsack) Schlegel. Don served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War.
A lifetime resident of Otis, Don was a farmer and a truck driver. He worked for H & K Trucking, Westcott Trucking and Old Dominion Freight Line.
On Dec. 14, 1983, he married Donna L. Moore-Evans in Otis, Kan. She preceded him in death on Jan. 4, 2009.
He is survived by his mother, Margaret Schlegel; and a sister, Connie Galusha, both of Otis; three stepsons; Gerald Evans and wife Brenda of Naperville, Ind., David Evans of New Creek, W.V., and Steven Evans and wife Deanna of Scherr, W.V.; and six grandchildren, Justin and Cody Evans, Luke and Louise Evans, Deprise Evans-Hawk and husband Logan, and Desire-e Evans. He was preceded in death by his father and a nephew, David Galusha.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday and Friday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Lyle Knebel presiding. Burial with military honors will follow at Hoisington Cemetery.
