Doris E. Smolik, age 85 years, of Great Bend, Kan. passed away on Monday afternoon, Oct. 12, 2020 at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington, Kansas.  Doris was born on Oct. 22, 1934 at Larned, Kan. to Joe M. and Esther Marie (Rudeen) Camp. She was united in marriage to Matthew A. “Matt” Smolik on July 19, 1955 at La Crosse, Kan. Doris worked at TG&Y in Great Bend for 13 years, and later worked in the laundry at Great Bend Manor/Integrated Health Services (now Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center) and Cherry Village (now MedicaLodges of Great Bend) for over 30 years, until she was age 80. She was a former member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and the Church of Christ, both of Great Bend. Doris loved puzzle books and spending time with her grandchildren. 

Survivors include four sons Tom (and his wife, Tina) Smolik of Bushton, Kan., Gary (and his wife, Doris Ann) Smolik of Hutchinson, Kan., Steven (and his wife, Mary Ann) Smolik of Great Bend, Kan., and Larry Smolik of Great Bend, Kan.; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Matthew “Matt” Smolik on Sept. 16, 2014; two grandsons (Chris Smolik and Michael Cox); and one great-granddaughter Alyah Diaz; three brothers (Russell, Leroy, and Leo Dye) and one sister Joann Barker. 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020 at Charter Funerals in Great Bend, Kan. with Pastor Larry J. Schumacher officiating. Cremation will follow with inurnment to take place at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Charter Funerals in Great Bend, Kan. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
