Dorothy Mae (Henkle) Pounds 1914 - 2012

Dorothy Mae (Henkle) Pounds, 97, of McPherson, passed away on Thursday, March 15, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.

Dorothy was born May 30, 1914, in Kay County, Okla., the daughter of William H. and Myrtle (Mitcham) Henkle. She graduated from Central Academy, McPherson in 1931, Central College, McPherson in 1935, Seattle Pacific, Wash. with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1946, and Wichita State University with a Master of Arts degree in 1960.

She retired in 1979 after 42 years of teaching, having taught kindergarten through 8th grade at McPherson and Barton County, ten years at McPherson High School, and then junior high in Wichita.

She was united in marriage to Roger W. Pounds on May 3, 1986, in McPherson. He preceded her in death on Feb. 10, 2009.

Survivors include: step-daughters, Erma C. Dunham of Russellville, Ark. and Elma M. Habecker of Spring Arbor, Mich.; eight step-grandchildren; and 19 step-greatgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings, and her husband.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 23, at the McPherson Free Methodist Church with Rev. Deborah Somerville and Rev. Tom Griffith officiating. Burial will be in the McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., Thursday, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Central Christian College of Kansas in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home.
