Edwin Dwayne Deckert, 90, died March 21, 2017, at Great Bend. Born Jan. 5, 1927, at Great Bend, he was the son of Edward and Ricky (Unruh) Deckert. He attended the Pawnee Rock schools. On Aug. 24, 1949, he was united in marriage to Janis Dierking of Stafford. They made their home on the family farm northwest of Pawnee Rock for 40 years. He was a farmer and long-time conservationist, plumber and welder. After retiring to Great Bend, he enjoyed traveling and golf. He was the proud father of two daughters, Rhonda Gayle and Sondra Lynn.
Mr. Deckert was a member of Bergthal Mennonite Church in Pawnee Rock and later First United Methodist Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include his wife, Janis Deckert, of the home; one daughter, Sondra Collins and her husband Mark of Bolivar, Mo.; two granddaughters, Libby Foster and her husband Brett of Butler, Mo., and Lindsey VanLeeuwen and her husband Blake of Arma; and four great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Rhonda Gayle Deckert in 2011; two brothers, Gerald Deckert and Gene Deckert; and one niece, Donna Spencer.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Bryant Funeral Home with the Rev. Lenard Maxwell officiating. Burial will be in Mennonite Memorial Cemetery, three miles north of Pawnee Rock. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bryant Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Mennonite Memorial Cemetery Maintenance Fund or Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of the funeral home.
