BURDETT — Emmett J. Bauer, 87, died Sept. 23 at Country Place Living, Larned. He was born July 25, 1923, in Burdett, the son of Philip J. and Frances R. (Mooney) Bauer. On Aug. 25, 1942, he married Lois G. Hoch at Hanston. She died Jan. 16, 2007. A lifetime Burdett resident, he was a real estate broker and owner of Emmett J. Bauer Agency, Burdett.

Mr. Bauer was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned, and the American Legion, Burdett. He served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II, and was a Purple Heart recipient.

Survivors include five sons, Emmett J. Bauer (Patricia), McPherson, Rod Bauer (Lana), Larned, Steve Bauer (Rhonda), Wichita, Greg L. Bauer (Susan), Great Bend, and Mark Bauer (Veronica), Burdett; a brother, Lawrence Bauer, Burdett; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Maynard Bauer.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned, with Father Bernard Felix presiding. Vigil will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned. Burial will be in the Browns Grove Cemetery, Burdett, with military honors provided by Fort Riley. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday and 1-7 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
