Eric Jon Weimaster 1946 - 2020

Eric Jon Weimaster, 73, passed away Feb. 12, 2020 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Jon was born Dec. 20, 1946 in Russell the Sagitarius son of William and Kathryn (Larmer) Weimaster.

Jon graduated Great Bend High in 1964 and enlisted to the United States Navy the following year where he worked on the decks of the Kitty Hawk and Roosevelt flight carriers during the Vietnam war until his honorable discharge in 1969. While serving his country Jon was awarded 4 medals, National Defense Service medal, Commemorative Presidential Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnam Service Medal with 4 bronze stars.

Soon after the military he married Cheryl Erlich. One son was born from the union. Jon and Cheryl later divorced, he remained single. 

Jon worked as a self employed/contracted carpenter and skilled craftsman until retiring in 2012. He enjoyed working with wood, fishing, a good game of foosball, darts or pool and to ride. He owned countless Harley Davidson through the years and made as many rides to Sturgis. He was president of A.B.A.T.E. for several consecutive years where his duties included organizing poker runs and benefit rides for those in need.

Survivors include mother Kathryn Weimaster; sister Kandy Brewer (David), Jacksonville, Fla.; brother Jack Weimaster, Great Bend; and son Travis Weimaster. Jon was preceded in death by his father William and brother Wayne.

There will be a military ceremony to honor Jon at the Kansas Veterans Cemetary, 1208 N. College St. in Winfield, Kan. March 9 at 2 p.m. There may be an informal memorial at a later date. Please send memorial contributions to Winfield Veterans Memorial in Jon Weimasters name.
