Ernest (Ernie) Roy Luckert

Ernest (Ernie) Roy Luckert, age 88, of Perry, Okla., passed away Nov. 1, 2021, in Perry, Okla.

A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, Nov. 5 at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church in Perry, Okla., with Reverend Josh Bell officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Dighton Marler Funeral Home of Perry. Graveside at Grace Hill Cemetery to follow.

Ernie was born on March 1, 1933, in Edson, Kan., to Frederick Gottlieb and Emma Rose (Held) Luckert. He grew up in Edson and Nickerson, Kan., and graduated from Nickerson High School in 1951. Ernie married Bernice (Ruth) Brown on Oct. 19, 1952, in Great Bend, Kan., and they had five children. Ernie’s wife Ruth preceded him in death on Nov. 19, 2001. Ernie met longtime friend and companion Willetta (Petie) Cutsinger in 2002. She preceded him in death on Nov. 15, 2019.

Ernie worked in the oil field as a machinist, roughneck, and drill stem tester in Kansas until moving to Perry, Okla., in 1975. Ernie moved to Perry as a partner in Tew Drillstem Testing, LLC. He retired in 1983 to enjoy his family, playing card games, especially Phase 10, and having “coffee time” with his friends. Ernie enjoyed traveling with Ruth and then Petie. His destinations included cruises, sites across the United States, Brazil to visit his youngest sister and her family, and Ireland. 

Survivors in include his daughters, Kathryn (Kathy) Embers and husband Thomas (Tom) of Lawrence, Kan.; Margaret Bolay of Perry, Okla.; and Jeannine Howell and husband Mark of Newalla, Okla.; sons Vernon Luckert and wife Bridget (Sterrett) Luckert of Ottawa, Kan., and Galen Luckert and wife Terri (Theis) Luckert of Edmond, Okla. Grandchilden include Kara and husband Jeremy, sons Weston and Wyatt; Kasey and husband Jeff, daughter Penolope; Tony and wife Cassi; Brad and wife Kasie, daughter Bailey and son Miles; Craig; Michelle and husband J.R., sons Gabriel and Zachary, daughters MaKaila, Heagen, and Kamden Ruth; Laura and husband Doug; DeAnna and husband Jesse, daughters Sadie and Delaney: Maria and husband Todd, sons Robert and Dresden; Elizabeth and son Jasper; Rebecca and husband Luke; Montanna and daughter Raeylynn. A special thank you to Sadie’s fiancé Beau for all of his help with Grandpa. Ernie is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Florine (Flo) Harris, George Luckert, Charles (Bud) Luckert, Marie Platt, Viola Stein, William (Bill) Luckert, Frieda Roberts, Grace Pyles, Frank Luckert. Ernie is survived by sister Beulah Barbosa.
