Etta Jane Akings 1926 - 2011

Etta "Jane" Akings, 84, died June 28 at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend. She was born Aug. 9, 1926 at Barnsdall, Okla., the daughter of John Oliver and Julia Ava Anthony. Jane married Landon Fletcher Akings July 29, 1944. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Akings was a resident of Great Bend since 2003, coming from Olathe. She and Landon owned the Oxford Place Steak House in Olathe for 30 years. She was also a cook for the Galatia school district from 1955 to 1964.

Mrs. Akings was of the Christian faith. Her favorite hobby was garage "saleing".

Survivors include one son, Dean Akings and wife Lillian; three daughters, Shirley Foust and husband Larry, Hutchinson, Diane Aelmore and husband Larry, Olathe, and Betty Quinn, Olathe; one brother, John Anthony, Hennessy, Okla.; one sister, Colene Mallams, Bixby, Okla.; thirteen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Leslie Anthony, Herbert Anthony, and Lyle Anthony; and one sister, Valta Borrer.

Services are pending with Penwell-Gable Funeral Home, Olathe Chapel. Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend, is in charge of local arrangements
