Eugene J. Suppes

Eugene J. Suppes, 94, passed away Sept. 23, 2020, at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood. He was born on May 13, 1926, at Otis to Adam and Mary (Herrman) Suppes. He married Alma Zimmerman on May 2, 1950, at Schoenchen. She survives. 

Eugene was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for many years. He was a faithful Christian role model. He was a member Knights of Columbus and the VFW, all of Great Bend. He was a World War II veteran and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He loved the Kansas City Royals, gardening, and reading his bible, but especially loved his grandchildren and dogs, Max and Molly.  

Survivors include, his wife, Alma Suppes; his children, Shirley Philippi and husband Steve of Gilbert, Ariz., Ginger Herrman and husband Mark of Great Bend, Margie Bowsher and husband Mark of Richmond, Texas, Richard Suppes and wife Rhonda of Hutchinson, J.R. Suppes and wife Brenda of Great Bend, Bernie Suppes and wife Laura of St. John, Dale Suppes of Great Bend, Tammy Priest and husband Tim of Green Valley, Ariz., and Stacy Suppes and Jerry Dale of Derby; 22 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and two sisters in law, Mary Louise Suppes of Otis, and Elsie Suppes of Smith Center. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Lynda Garrett; five brothers, Tony and Agnes Suppes, Primus and Delores Suppes, Reinhold and Ruby Suppes, Clarence Suppes, and Julius Suppes; two sisters, Helen and Herbert Schuckman, and Ruth and Eddie Engel; and two great grandchildren, Bailiegh Kay Suppes and Bentley Lintz. 

Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 27, 2020 at Bryant Funeral Home, with Knights of Columbus rosary and Vigil at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Sept. 28, 2020, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Great Bend, with Father Don Bedore presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery North, with Military Rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Memorials are suggested to the Golden Belt Humane Society or ALS Association, in care of Bryant Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
