Father James F. Graner 1928 - 2012

LARNED – Father James F. Graner, 83, died Sept. 10 at the Larned Healthcare Center. Born Sept. 15, 1928, in Kansas City, Mo., he was the son of Carl and Marialice Ludeman Graner. On April 7, 1956, he married Anne LoBianco, at Oyster Bay, N.Y. She survives. He graduated from the University of Missouri in Kansas City. He worked for the G.M. and Republic Aviation, then went to St. Luke Seminary, at Sewanne, Tenn. where in 1967 he was ordained an Episcopal Priest in Birmingham, Ala. Upon his retirement in 1994, he wrote several books. Father Garner was the Vicar of the Episcopal Church of Saints Mary and Martha of Bethany in Larned, the Holy Nativity in Kinsley and served his first two churches in Alabama.  
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, both in Larned. In 1946, he served in the Army for two years, stationed in the Philippines.
Other survivors include a son, David Graner of Hays; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Dean and Gerry Graner.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at Episcopal Church of Saints Mary and Martha in Larned with Father Mark Cowell presiding.  Inurnment will be in the Christ Cathedral in Salina, at a later date. Friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, at Beckwith Mortuary in Larned. Memorials may be sent to the Society of the Holy Cross or the Episcopal Church of Saints Mary and Martha, in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be left at www.beckwithmortuary.com.
