SALINA — Gary D. Apel, 58, of Salina, died Jan. 10. Born Jan. 23, 1953, in Sterling, he was the son of Norman and Marilyn (Eves) Apel. Gary was a welder and fabricator for the Blue Goose Company of Great Bend and Tony’s of Salina. He was also a goat rancher at the Apel Farm.
Survivors include his wife Robin of Salina; three sons, Gary Apel Jr. of Peculiar, Mo., Mathew Apel of Shawnee, and Kristofer Apel of Salina; two daughters, Tamara Stumps of Holyrood and Autumn Miller of Salina; his father and step-mother, Norman and Gladys Apel of Great Bend; a brother, David Apel of Salina; three sisters, Briana Ernst of Henderson, Nev., Gerilyn Hoard of Salina and Amy Astrab of Derby; grandchildren, Kerstie Stumps, Devin Stumps, Dalton Apel, Gavin Apel, Mathew Apel II, Diego Apel, Jaquelynn Miller, Seth Miller, Zayne Saltkill, Vayda Saltkill and Zander Apel; step-grandchildren, Blayz Saltkill and Zoew Curtiss; and great-grandchild, Talyn Dunlap. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn, in 2011.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Ryan Mortuary in Salina. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Heifer International.
