Gene H. Holloway, born on Jan. 24, 1933, died Sept. 2, 2020, at Stafford County Hospital after a short illness with covered stays including Hutchinson and Pratt hospitals.
Gene is survived by his wife, Mary Lou of Stafford; a son, Jay Holloway and wife Dawn of Great Bend; a granddaughter, Montana Holloway of Pratt; a step daughter, Debra Ackley of Wichita; grandson, Cain Amos and step grandson, Dallas Marlow; great grandchildren, Austin Amos, Madison Amos, Ryder Morris, Kaimana Morris, and Kairyana Morris; a great great grandchild, Kehgan Amos; brother in law, Karol Claypool; and nephew, TJ Claypool of Stafford. There are a host of neices and nephews from the Claypool, Holloway, Meridith and Lonnon families.
Gene is pre-deceased by his father, Henry Holloway of Wichita; his mother, Kathryn Ruby Potter of Wichita and aunt, Dr. Janet Holloway, anesthesiologist of Detroit, Michigan, both ladies had retired in Winter Haven, Florida.; son, Ronald Lee Ackley; sister, Sarah Holloway; and sister in law, Barbara Claypool.
Gene spent his working life at Beech Aircraft in Wichita where he met Mary Lou. They were married July 15, 1960. After 4000 were laid off at Beech, Boeing and Cessna, they moved to Stafford, Mary’s hometown and worked for Whitlock Fertilizer Plant. They moved to Great Bend in 1964 and ran the Cooper Lawn & Garden Center. Gene worked for many years selling cars for O’Connell Motors, Spruill Motors and Marmie Motors, then owned the Auto Mart used car lot.
Gene and Mary both loved to garden and worked the farmers market for over 20 years and many trips to bring Colorado peaches to the market. Gene loved to fish the Arkansas, Ninnescah and Walnut Rivers. The fish will miss his way of catch and release, and he will be missed by family and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 12, 2020, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Bill Arnold presiding. Thank you to Owen Song, international student of Gene and Mary from Seoul, South Korea, for saying a special prayer in Korean for grandpa. Memorials are suggested to the Church of Christ of Stafford, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
