LARNED — George Dennis Martin, 63, passed away Jan. 21 at the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned. Born April 15, 1948 in Great Bend, he was the son of George Earl and Maxine Salmans Martin. A lifetime area resident, except for 17 years when he was a warehouse manager for Houghton Mifflin Publishing Company in Batavia, Ill. He also assisted with the formation of Riverside Publishing Co. Chicago, Ill., and was the managing editor for the Tiller and Toiler Newspaper.

He was born of the Baptist faith and attended the Sts. Mary and Martha Episcopal Church in Larned. He was a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of the Shriners, Scottish Rite, Blue Lodge, Rotary International, Sons of the American Revolution, TKE, Pawnee County Economic Development, Larned Chamber of Commerce, Kansas Press Association and Fort Hays State University Alumni Association.

Survivors include, his mother of Larned; his fiancé, Dolores Wren, of Larned; a brother, Robert Earl Martin and wife Janet, of Prairie Village; six nieces and nephews; and fifteen great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother Thomas Leslie Martin.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. on Thursday, at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with Father Mark Cowell presiding. Burial with Masonic graveside rites will be at the Larned Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Pawnee County Humane Society or the Larned EMS, both in care of the funeral home.
