ELLINWOOD — Gerald F. Menges,  81, died April 15 at Ellinwood District Hospital. He was the son of Fred Menges and Martha Watson, born on April 28, 1929 in Wichita.
He has been a resident of Ellinwood since 1953. He retired as asst. director of maintenance at Barton Community College in 1994.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Ellinwood Area Enterprises, VFW and American Legion all of Ellinwood. He was chosen as Ellinwood’s Distinguished Citizen Award for 2011. He was a U.S. Army Veteran.
Mr. Menges married Geraldine Ann Bousser on Oct. 8, 1951 in Wichita.
Survivors include his wife of the home; four sons, Mike (Belinda) Menges, Mark (Tracy) Menges, Mitch Menges, all of Ellinwood, and Matt Menges, Scott City; five daughters, Mary (David) Tudor, Millie Menges, all of Ellinwood, Margaret Ferguson, Kinsley; Melinda Adams, Leavenworth, and Michelle (Donavon) Jones, Wichita; a sister, Carol (John) Henderson, Pratt; 26 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Fred Jr.; sisters, Maxine Menges and Joyce Shad; grandchildren Monika Menges, Jeremy Adams; and great-grandchild Maleah Menges.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Parish Center in Ellinwood with Father Charles Mazouch officiating. The calling time will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday at Kimple Funeral Home.  The Alter Society Rosary will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Kimple. The Vigil will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Parish Center followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary. Burial will be at the Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery. Memorials made be made to St. Joseph’s remodeling fund in care of the funeral home.
