Gilbert Robert Bates 1924-2014

DALLAS, Texas – Gilbert Roger Bates,  loving father and grandfather, 90, died Oct. 16, 2014 at Medical City Hospital, Dallas.
He was born Aug. 10, 1924 at Otis, the son of Edward and Lena (Jessup) Bates
He married Hildred Allene Munger on Dec. 24, 1947 in Hoisington.  She died Feb. 11, 1999.  Gilbert retired from Oil Field Sales. Mr. Bates was a Dallas resident for the last several years coming from Great Bend. He served during World War II in the Navy from 1943 to 1946. Gilbert was a former member of the First Assembly of God in Great Bend where he had served as a deacon for many years.
Gil spent his last several years in Dallas with his family, learning the city and enjoying new experiences. Not surprising to those who knew him, stubborn and independent to the end.  Most importantly, always a faithful servant to his Lord, leaving his family an incredible Christian heritage.
Survivors include two daughters, Stephanee Bates, Dallas; Shari Bates-Stephens and husband Lawrence, Dallas; four grandchildren, Lt. Rique Sanchez, USN, Virginia Beach, Va.; Alexis Stephens, Audrey Stephens and Alec Stephens, all of Dallas.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Del Lynn Bates Sanchez; three brothers, Ivan, Melvin, and Clifford, and two sisters, Wanda and Bettie.
Graveside Service is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Interment will be at Hoisington Cemetery.
