Glen Alexander Doonan

HOISINGTON — Glen Alexander Doonan, 76, passed away June 18, 2023, at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita. He was born April 10, 1947, in Parsons, to Willard and Blanche (Schaffer) Doonan. Glen married Dorthy Hart Sept. 6, 1969, in Patuxent River, MD.  

Glen, a Hoisington area resident since 1975 coming from Pratt and Great Bend, worked as a machinist for GBI for 26 years, retiring in 2001. During that time, he also owned and operated Glen’s Place Bar and Grill. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington, Knights of Columbus Council #1521 and was a Vietnam veteran of the United Stated Navy, obtaining the rank of E4 Petty Officer 3rd Class in the SeaWolf class. He was a tractor enthusiast and enjoyed fishing and lending a hand to his community of farmers. Above all, he was a man of faith and family. 

Survivors include wife, Dorthy Doonan, of the home; two sons, Jeff Doonan of Hoisington, Wade Doonan and wife Sandy of Salina; one daughter, Lynn Andres and husband Merlyn of Solomon; one brother, Roy Doonan of Hutchinson; two sisters, Faye Doonan of Hoisington, and Darlene Stoss of Hoisington; six grandchildren, Jacob Andres and wife Jennifer, Shauna Andres, Alexis Miller and husband Conlan, Austin Doonan, Kacee Doonan and Bryce Doonan; one great grandson, Benjamin Andres; and his beloved mutt, Hank. He was preceded in death by brother, Willard Ray “Butch” Doonan; and a brother-in-law, Ed Stoss.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 23, 2023, at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington, with Father Anselm Eke presiding. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Solomon. The register book will be available to sign 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 22, with a Vigil and Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 p.m., at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.
