Harold Martin Schenk, 98, died June 4, 2016, at Rooks County Health Center in Plainville. Born Feb. 17, 1918, in Olmitz, he was the son of William and Amelia (Spitzka) Schenk. On Oct. 8, 1947, he married Wilma Jean Nagel in Great Bend. She died Feb. 3, 1993. He then married Wilma Jean (Stukey) Burton on Dec. 14, 1996, in Olmitz. She died July 27, 2013. A resident of Great Bend since 1947, coming from Olmitz, he was a pumper for Aspen Drilling, Western Petroleum, Chapman Drilling and Ryan Drilling. He enjoyed traveling and square dancing.
Mr. Schenk was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #862, Good Sams Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Rhonda Pitts of Plainville, and Roxanne Rich of Great Bend; four grandchildren, Joshua Holmes and wife Addie, Micah Holmes, Jenna Rich and Laci Rich; and four great-grandchildren, Jenae Holmes, Taesen Holmes, Veidyn Holmes and Zayvier Hays. He was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Donny Pitts and Bob Rich; two sisters, Christina “Christy” Steiner and Magdalene “Peggy” Steiner; and four brothers, William “Bill” Schenk, Edwin “Butch” Schenk, Robert “Bob” Schenk and Bernard “Bernie” Schenk.
Vigil Service with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend with Father Don Bedore celebrating. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, at Bryant Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Golden Belt Community Foundation to benefit Holy Family School, in care of the funeral home.
