HOISINGTON— Helen Maxine Barlow, 85, died June 18 at Christus Spohn Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born Jan. 25, 1927 at Arkansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Ernest and Iola (Kincaid) Hilderbrandt. In 1950, she married E.C. “Dusty” Barlow in Arkansas. Helen was a Barton County resident since 1964. She moved to Texas in 2011 to be closer to her daughters.
She and Dusty owned and operated the Highway Cafe in Hoisington and the Susank Tavern in Susank for several years. She later worked for Fuller Brush Company. Helen enjoyed playing cards and fishing.
She is survived by one son, Ron Barlow and wife Laura of Hoisington; two daughters, Pamela Clark and husband Albert of Pflugerville, Texas, and Cassie Barlow-Long and husband Michael of Port Aransas, Texas; one brother, Ernie Hilderbrandt of Lindsay, Okla.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, Mark, Loren and Floyd Hilderbrandt, three sisters, June Hopkins, Jean Lowe and Iola Ramsey.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 23 at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington, with Pastor Steven Little officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Interment will be at Hoisington Cemetery. The memorial fund is Kans for Kids in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.
