WICHITA — Howard K. Sorensen died June 28, 2012. Born in Westbrook, Minn., on April 4, 1918, he was the son of Jim and Janet Sorensen (Rhodes). He was raised by his father and his stepmother, Mable Sorensen, nee Nelsen, his mother having died when he was an infant. In 1941 he married Claire Willis. With Howard’s seminary training in Fort Worth, Texas, Memphis, Tenn., and Kansas City, he and Claire served in Baptist churches in Velma, Okla., Basehor, Pawnee City, Neb., Sterling, Hugoton, Pleasant Valley (Wichita), Meade, and Tribune; and in the area ministry for the Kansas Baptist Convention from Great Bend. Howard served American Baptist missions in Haiti and Arizona. Howard and Claire moved to Prairie Homestead in 1999, where Howard has functioned as honorary chaplain to residents of the Health Center.
Survivors include his sons Conner of Eschbach, Germany, Nathan of Hamburg, Germany, and Garth of Miacatlan, Mexico; granddaughters Cloudia Pawluk and Claire Meyler; grandsons Daniel and Philipp Sorensen; and great-grandchildren Keith, Angela, and Sarah Pawluk, Maganda Meyler and Anna Sorensen.
Memorial services will be held at Prairie Homestead at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Homestead Health Center are welcome. Condolences may be offered at www.devorssflanaganhunt.com.
