WICHITA — Hubert B. Ochs, 86, died Feb. 18 at Larksfield Place Retirement Community in Wichita. Born Nov. 7, 1924, in Galatia, he was the son of Benjamin and Elizabeth (Karst) Ochs. On Sept. 5, 1948, he married Norma Lee Schultz in Great Bend. She died on July 1, 2005. A resident of Great Bend, moving to Wichita in 2004, he was the longtime owner and operator of Wells Men’s Wear in Great Bend.
Mr. Ochs was a veteran of the United States Army Air Force, serving in World War II as a B-26 navigator.
Survivors include two sons, Steven R. Ochs and Scott D. Ochs and his wife Carole Downing-Ochs, both of Wichita; two sisters, Ruth E. Brack of Hoisington and Nadine M. Able of Cadiz, Ky.; and four grandchildren, Eric Ochs of Wichita, Jennifer Ochs-Pyjas of Charlotte, N.C., Tucker Ochs of Boulder, Colo., and Chase Downing of Wichita. He was preceded in death by infant daughter, Susan K. Ochs; and one brother, Lester M. Ochs.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at Bryant Funeral Home with the Rev. Loren W. Hickerson officiating. Burial will be at the Great Bend Cemetery. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to the First Congregational United Church of Christ or Alzheimer’s Association or Sedgwick County Zoo, all in care of the funeral home.
