BEL AIRE — Ivonne “Vonnie” S. Burmeister, 83, passed away on Sept. 18, 2022, at the Catholic Care Center in Bel Aire, Kan. Vonnie was born on Aug. 20, 1939, in the Methodist Parsonage in Claflin, Kan., to Emery E. and Twila M. (Bisbee) Grossardt. She married Ferdinand “Fritz” H. Burmeister on Jan.23, 1960, in Claflin, Kan.
Vonnie graduated from Claflin High School as the Class President and Valedictorian in 1957 and then attended Emporia State University. In addition to supporting Fritz on the family farm, she worked at banks in Claflin and Galatia, Stricker Farms, and the Hoisington Public Library. She especially enjoyed working with the young children as the Children’s Librarian.
Vonnie was a 58-year member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Galatia, where she was active on church council, ladies’ group, and choir. She supported her children as a leader with the Fairview Scouts 4-H club and taught crocheting and knitting.
She was preceded in death by her husband Fritz; her parents; and step-father Norbert Riebel. She is survived by sons Chris (Shahi) of Cinnaminson, N.J., Dan (Tammy) of Plainfield, Ill., and Kurt (Mandy) of Eastborough, Kan.; grandsons, Zane (Daniella) of Chesterfield, Mich., Jacob (Hannah) of Royal Oak, Mich., Grant of Lakewood, Colo., and Graham of Golden, Colo.; great granddaughters, Brielle and Ava; sister, Darlene (Larry) Plymell of Hays, Kan.; step-sister, Carol (Larry) Horton of Great Bend, Kan.; step-brother Jim (Dee) Riebel of Lubbock, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Sept. 20, with family to greet friends from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 21, 2022, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with Reverend Wayne Baldyga presiding, followed by burial at Fairview Cemetery in Galatia.
