James L. "Jim" Boyce, 75, of Great Bend, passed away on Jan. 16. at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born on Oct. 25, 1936, in Lyons, he was the son of Louis and Mabel (Wieter) Boyce. He lived in Lyons, Wichita, Hutchinson and Great Bend while growing up and graduated from Great Bend High School in 1956. On Oct. 25, 1978, he was united in marriage to Sandra J. Dwelley at Swan Valley, Idaho. The couple lived in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and also Whittier, Calif., where Jim worked as a pipefitter for Southern California Gas Company of Hacienda Heights, Calif., retiring in October of 1998, at which time they moved back to Great Bend. Jim was an avid fly fisherman and loved gardening, and was known for helping people any way he could.

Survivors include his wife, of Great Bend; two sons, Steven W. and his wife, Carol, Skolas of Great Bend and James L. and his wife, Deborah, Boyce Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz.; four daughters, Jacquelyn, and her husband, Robert, Fisher of San Clemente, Calif., Stacey Boyce of Whittier, Calif., Kimberly, and her husband, Randy, Troxel of Sacramento, Calif., and Kelly, and her husband, Tom, of Fujibayashi of Scottsdale, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Boyce of Independence, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Roxcena Boyce and Janice Van Brimmer.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at Charter Funerals in Great Bend with the Rev. John Grummon officiating. Interment will be at Great Bend Cemetery North. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
