ELLINWOOD — Jean Robinson, 98, died Tuesday afternoon, March 17, 2015, at Ellinwood District Hospital. Jean was a 70-year-plus resident of Ellinwood and was highly respected in the community. She was selected as parade Grand Marshal of the Ellinwood After Harvest Festival, was selected a “Distinguished Citizen” of the community and was awarded one of the Ellinwood Rotary Club’s most prestigious awards, the Paul Harris Fellow. She was born on a farm north of Hoisington to G.C. “Cleve” and Gertrude Underwood in 1917 and grew up in Hoisington. She graduated from Hoisington High School, then went to Kansas State University, where she was selected as the first football homecoming queen at KSU in 1936, a fact that she had fun with the rest of her long and full life. At K-State, she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority, and graduated from K-State in 1938. She was Wildcat purple through and through! Mrs. Robinson was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who knew her.
Survivors include her daughter, Sandi Lawrence of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two sons, Mike Robinson and his wife, Lynda, of Mulvane and Craig Robinson and his wife, Dena, of Wichita; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much and always remembered them and her children, on their birthdays with personal messages of congratulations. She was pre-deceased by son, Scott Robinson in 1980, her husband, G.I. Robinson in 1990, and a granddaughter, Sarah Lawrence, in 1996.
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 22 at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Ellinwood, followed by a reception in the UCC’s Fellowship Hall. There will be two public viewings, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday and from 1 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood. A private family graveside service will be conducted. Monday followed by burial in Lakin-Comanche Cemetery in Ellinwood next to her beloved husband, G.I. Robinson. Memorials have been established with the United Church of Christ in Ellinwood and the Ellinwood Garden Club in care of the funeral home.
