Jeanne Louise Schmitt, 70, died Sept. 6, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Born Aug. 31, 1944, in Winfield, she was the daughter of Raymond Chandler and Helen Ruth (Westin) Muret. On May 30, 1969, she married Terryl “Terry” Keith Schmitt in Manhattan. He died on Aug. 17, 2006. A Great Bend resident since 1978, coming from Hoisington where she had lived since 1969, she was an Extension Agent in Belleville, then a dietician for the Clara Barton Hospital. She retired as a secretary for Central Baptist Church in Great Bend.
Mrs. Schmitt was a member of the Hoisington First United Methodist Church, Beta Sigma Phi and Clovia.
Survivors include two sons, Allen Schmitt and wife Jamie of Lincoln, Neb. and Jason Schmitt and wife Aleksandra of Wichita; one brother, William E. Muret and wife Nancy of Winfield; one sister, Ann Wiles of Leoti; and four grandchildren, Caitlin Schmitt, Haley Zaiss, Trevor Schmitt, and, Zofia Schmitt. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Hoisington First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kris Brinlee officiating. Burial will be at the Walnut Valley Cemetery in rural Barton County. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, both at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Hoisington First United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.nicholsonrickefh.net.
