HESSTON — J.M. “Jim” Pitts, 86, passed away Dec. 12, 2016, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
Born Oct. 14, 1930, on the family farm in Booker, Texas, he was the son of Chester A. and Vera E. Green Pitts. On Oct. 15, 1950, he married Geneva Elleman at the Colorado Springs Friends Church. She survives. In 1958, he graduated from Friends University, with a bachelor’s degree and then went on to receive his masters of ministry degree from Earlham School of Religion. He was a minister most of his life, serving in Kansas and Indiana.
Other survivors include a son, Ken (Katherine) Pitts, Portland, Ore.; a daughter, Pam (Doug) Chambers, Buffalo Creek, Colo.; a brother, Daryl (Gloria) Pitts, San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Verna (Orrin) Pitts, Hutchinson; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Pitts, Derby; and Phyllis Pitts, El Dorado; five grandchildren, Cameron Chambers, Kendra Miller, Allison Petrek, Emily Pitts, and Abigail Pitts; and three great-grandchildren, Pearl Miller, Porter Miller, and Mae Petrek.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Don Pitts; and brothers, Verlin, Aldean, and Ron Pitts.
Cremation is planned. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at University Friends Meeting, 1840 W. University Ave in Wichita with Cliff Loesch presiding. A private inurnment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wichita Friends School or University Friends Meeting, both in care of the funeral home.
