GARFIELD — John M. Olson, 92, passed away April 25 at his home in Garfield. He was born June 11, 1921, in Garfield, the son of John and Minnie Lundblade Olson. A lifetime Garfield resident, he was in partnership with his father at the Olson and Olson Blacksmith and Machine Shop. He retired as a power plant operator at Larned State Hospital.
Mr. Olson was a member of the Swedish Lutheran Church, American Legion Tony Asher Post 300, City Council and was a Volunteer fireman. He attended Bethany College for two years and then was drafted into the service where he was a tail gunner on a B24 Liberator in the Pacific Theatre in World War II.
On June 20, 1948, he married Emma Mostrom in Garfield KS. She survives.
Other survivors include one son, Eric Olson and wife Lisa, Collierville, Tenn.; three daughters, Janet Olson, Garfield, Dr. Norma Olson and husband Dr. Paul Kelly, Underwood, Minn., and Ruth Peters and husband Reed, Larned; four grandchildren, Molly Olson-Kelly, Elizabeth Lake Olson, Anna Marie Olson and John William Olson; and one great-granddaughter, Sophia Grace Olson-Kelly Ramirez. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lennart Olson; and two sisters, Tureda McGuire and Mary Louise Holmquist.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, at the Garfield Lutheran Church in Garfield with Pastor Jim Lohmeyer presiding. Burial will be in the Garfield Cemetery with military graveside rites following the service. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Memorials may be given to the Garfield Lutheran Church or the Garfield American Legion in care of the mortuary. Condolences may be left for the Family at www.beckwithmortuary.com.
