Joseph A. Young 1969 - 2017

Joseph A. Young, 47, of Great Bend passed away at his home on Friday, March 24, 2017, after a lengthy illness. Joe was born on April 11, 1969, at Medicine Lodge, to Bernard C. and Teresa E. (Felton) and grew up and attended school in Pratt. Joe worked as a carpenter in the construction trade for many years, and also worked in landscaping. He was united in marriage to Linda (Thimesch) Leslie on Nov. 16, 2002, at Hutchinson. The couple lived in Colorado and Hutchinson prior to moving to Great Bend three years ago. Joe was a perfectionist in everything he did, and loved gardening, landscaping, fishing, and had a special love for his grandchildren. Joe was also a huge KU fan.
Joe is survived by his wife, Linda Young of Great Bend; one stepson, Garret (and his wife, Amie) Leslie of Hutchinson; and one stepdaughter, Brandi Leslie of Hutchinson; two grandchildren, Ally and Gracie Leslie; four brothers, William “Bill” (and his wife, Clovis) Young of Pratt, Mike (and his wife, Jane) Young of Hays, Wesley (and his wife, Diane) Young of Hutchinson, and Ken Young of Great Bend; and one sister, Donna Gould of Hutchinson. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Kathy Brown; and one sister-in-law, Dana Young.
Cremation has been chosen. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 27, at Charter Funerals in Great Bend with Pastor Larry Schumacher officiating. Inurnment will take place in Pleasant View Cemetery at Sawyer at a later date. Memorial donations are designated to the St. Rose Health Center Endowment Fund for Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice in Great Bend.
