Joseph W. Porter 1925 - 2011

BUSHTON — Joseph W. Porter, 85, died April 18 at the Rice County District Hospital in Lyons. He was born Dec. 19, 1925, in Keota Okla., the son of Charles and Olvia Gray Porter. On Sept. 30, 1947, he married Norma Louis on Sept. 30, 1947. A resident of Bushton since 1991, formerly of Tulsa, Okla., he grew up in McCurtain, Okla. He was an oilfield worker and a barber.

Mr. Porter was veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II, aboard the USS Wyandot AKA 92. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Bushton, the Masonic Lodge in Clafln, and the Scottish Rite in Tulsa, Okla.

Survivors include his wife, Norma, of the home; a son, Patrick Porter and wife Kelly, Edmond, Okla.; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Richards, Woodland Park, Colo.; two grandchildren, Allison Porter and Jacob Porter; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Bushton with the Rev. Gene Langhofer officiating. Burial will be at the Bushton Cemetery with military honors by the U.S. Navy. Friends may visit from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, with family present from 5-7 p.m. at Birzer Funeral Home in Lyons. Memorials are suggested to Scottish Rite in care of the funeral home.
