LAWRENCE — Julia Louise Saenz, 62, died Jan. 6 at her home surrounded by her family. Born on Nov. 6, 1950 in Lamar, Colo., she was the daughter of Joe and Kathryn “Katie” (Godinez) Saenz. On May 2, 1981 she married James Michael Self in Great Bend. He preceded her in death on July 5, 2010. She was an office manager for St. John the Evangelist Catholic School.
Ms. Saenz was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, where she was active in the Pastoral Council and with the Fiesta.
Survivors include one son, James “Michael” Self of Lawrence; one daughter, Kathryn “Katie” Self of Denver, Colo.; two sisters, Mona (Andy) Webb of Wichita and Monica (Len) Ortega of LaCrosse; four brothers, Rito (Jeannie) Saenz of Topeka, Joe Saenz, Chris (Laura) Saenz, and Manuel Palacio, all of Great Bend; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Edward Saenz; and a sister-in-law, Linda Saenz.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.  Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. today at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. The family will receive friends following the rosary until 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Oncology Department or to Visiting Nurses Hospice.
