Kenneth “Ken” Ray Schumacher, 88, passed away June 7, 2023, at Sunrise Retirement Home, Sioux City, Iowa. He was born on Nov. 10, 1934, in Drayton, N.D., to Gordon and Barb (Helm) Schumacher. Ken married Kathleen Knaus Sept. 15, 1952, in Drayton, N.D. He then married Barbara (Petersilie) Tomlinson on Dec. 5, 1981, in Great Bend. She passed Feb. 27, 2014. He then married Marilyn (Shaffer) Beach on Sept. 16, 2017 in Ankeny, Iowa. She survives.
A resident of Ankeny, Iowa since 2017, Ken formerly lived in Great Bend and was the owner and operator of Kansas Door from 1988 until his retirement in 1998. He was also the Windsor Door salesman and Director of the Mohawk Division at Fuller Brush. Ken was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, AMBUCS, Elks Lodge and Kiwanis, and enjoyed fishing, traveling and held a pilot’s license. Above all, Ken was a man of faith and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family.
Survivors include two sons, Miles Schumacher and wife Julie of Raleigh, N.C. and Rick Tomlinson and wife Debbie of Great Bend; two daughters, Teresa Wondra and husband Kevin of Great Bend and LeAnn Gill and husband David of N. Sioux City, S.D.; 13 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Devin Holley; two brothers, Everett Schumacher and Duane Merritt; and a sister, Mavis Cronk.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 8 p.m., Sunday, June 11, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 12, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend, Kan., with Pastor James Strasen presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials have been designated to Heartland Cancer Center, in care of Bryant Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net
