BUNKER HILL — LaVada Mae (Steinle) Small, 80, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017, at the Russell Regional Hospital. LaVada was born Aug. 22, 1937, on the family farm south of Bunker Hill. She grew up in the Bunker Hill area and graduated from Bunker Hill High School. She then attended Beauticians School in Dodge City. She was united in marriage to Noyd L. Small on Jan. 5, 1958, in Russell. They made their home in the Russell area for a couple of years before moving out to the farm near Bunker Hill. Noyd preceded her in death on May 22, 1991. LaVada was a beautician for many years in Russell. She also helped her husband farm.
She was an active member of the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church and was the President of the United Methodist Women.
Survivors include her son, David Small of Bunker Hill; brother, LaVern Steinle of Bunker Hill; sister, Velda Hudnall of Great Bend; a grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Noyd; and sisters, Esther Foran and Edna Small.
Celebration of LaVada’s Life will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with Pastor Michael Eurit officiating. A private family committal will follow at the Bunker Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m. on Sunday, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6-7 p.m. Memorials have been established with the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church or United Methodist Women in care of the funeral home.
