LEWIS — LaVeda I. Cross, 80, passed away July 3, 2017, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born July 23, 1936, in Lyons, the daughter of Olin R. and Irene M. Kitchen Bernstorf. LaVeda moved to Chase at a young age and lived there until she was in the third grade, then her family moved to Lewis, where she was a longtime resident and a farmwife. In November of 1958 she married W.B. Cross in Larned. He passed away May 6, 1985.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lewis, was a foster parent, a CASA board member, was active at the Meadowlark library in Lewis and the Wheat Belt Girl Scout Council.
Survivors include, a son, Brian (Jill) Cross, Lewis; a daughter, Gay Lynne Cross, Dodge City; a sister Mona Marie Wysong, Larned; a brother, Larry Bernstorf, Derby; and two grandchildren, Clara Cross and Clayton Cross, both of Lewis.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at United Methodist Church in Lewis with Pastors Melissa Naylor and Bill Stapleton presiding. Burial will be in Wayne Cemetery in Lewis. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today with family present from 5-7 p.m. at Beckwith Mortuary in Larned. Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church in Lewis or the Dillon Nature Center in Hutchinson, both in care of the funeral home.
