Laverne Bunny Tomanek 1933 - 2011

WAKEENEY — Laverne "Bunny" Tomanek, 78, died July 12, at Via Christi-St. Francis in Wichita. Born March 9, 1933 in Collyer, he was the son of Fred Eugene Tomanek and Rose Katherine (Power) Tomanek. On Oct. 20, 1952 he married Darlene (Nemechek) Tomanek.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene Tomanek, of the home; a son, Eddie Tomanek of Topeka; four daughters, Pam Ehlts of Salina, Peggy Smith of Great Bend; Judy Jordan of Pueblo, Colo., and Rita Mernagh of Wichita; a sister, Maxine Lindsay of Hays; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Danny Ray Tomanek and an infant son, Rodney Tomanek; and a grandson, Joseph Axman.

A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Christ the King Cemetery in WaKeeney. Friends may visit from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
