Lenhardt (Leonard) Homeier 1924 - 2012

WILSON — Lenhardt (Leonard) Homeier, 86, died Feb. 19 in Great Bend. Born May 1, 1924, in Ellsworth county, he was the son of Wilhelm Homeier and Emma Friebus. On July 28, 1947, he married Alice Zeman. She died in November 2011. A lifetime resident of the Dorrance/Wilson area, he was a farmer, dairyman and carpenter.

Mr. Homeier was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilson, the Russell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6240, and the Wilson American Legion, Post No. 262.

Survivors include two sons, Will Homeier (Sherry), of Russell and Ralph Homeier (Deb) of Dorrance; six daughters, Rita Habbart, Mary Lee Bohnen (Sonny) and Donna Fay Major (Ron), all of Dorrance, Barb Bowman (Jim) of Russell, Alice Mae Prester (Terry) of Lyons, and Betty Jo Lloyd (Tom) of Parker, Colo.; 22 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; and two sons, Robert and Steve.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilson with Father Jarett Konrade officiating. Interment will be at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in Wilson. Military honors will be provided by VFW 6240 of Russell, American Legion 262 in Wilson, and the Fort Riley Honor Guard. The Salina Harley Riders will also be present. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday  at Foster Mortuary, followed by parish vigil at 8:15 p.m. at the church. Memorials are suggested to St. Wenceslaus Cemetery Fund or St. Joseph’s Cemetery Fund.
