Lorraine M. Phelan 1920 - 2015

HOLYROOD — Lorraine M. Phelan, 95, passed away Oct. 27, 2015, in Ellinwood.
Born Sept. 26, 1920, in rural Ellinwood, she was the daughter of Mary (Luebbers) and Andy Robl. On Nov. 11, 1946, she married Virgil Phelan at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ellinwood. She worked as a secretary for the Holyrood and Quivira Heights Schools.
Mrs. Phelan was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Holyrood, St. Mary’s Altar Society and Red Hats.  
Survivors include five sons Pat Phelan (Barbara) of Meeker, Colo., Tom Phelan of Phoenix, Ariz., and Dennis Phelan (Jacque), Mark Phelan, and John Phelan (Carolyn), all of Holyrood; daughter, Rita McCarthy of Manhattan; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister, Rita Robl of Wichita. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; son-in-law, Michael McCarthy; daughter-in-law, Gladys Phelan; and brothers, Orville, Leonard and John Robl.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Holyrood. Burial will follow at the Odin Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m., with family will receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at Parsons Funeral Home in Ellsworth. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to great-granddaughter, Madelyn McCarthy Fund in care of the funeral home.
