Loyola A. Meitner Steiner 1926-2016

HOISINGTON — Loyola A. Meitner Steiner, 89, died Aug. 19, 2016 at Great Bend Health and Reha-bilitation Center.
She was born Nov. 17, 1926 in rural Odin, Kansas, the daughter of Sebastian and Wilhelmina “Min-nie” (Huslig) Reichuber.
Loyola married Robert C. Meitner June 18, 1947, at Odin. He passed away Dec. 14, 1991. She married Merle Joseph Steiner Aug. 2, 1997, at Hoisington. He passed away March 3, 2014. Mrs. Steiner was a Hoisington resident since 1976 coming from rural Olmitz. Loyola worked as a staff nurse and OBGYN nurse for Hoisington Lutheran Hospital and Clara Barton Hospital, since 1956. She retired after nearly 40 years of service, as the director of nursing. She also took pride in being an active farm wife.
Loyola was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Altar Society, and VFW Post 7428 Auxiliary, all of Hoisington. She enjoyed gardening and was an accomplished cook, especially during harvest time.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Meitner and his wife Celeste, Hoisington; Rocky Meitner and his wife Connie, Olmitz; a daughter, Shirley Schugart and her husband John, Mokelumne Hill, Calif.; a step-daughter, Kim Gorton, Paulden, Ariz.; a brother, Alfred Reichuber, Great Bend; 10 grandchildren, Curt Davis, Bobbie Davis, Karen Blaisdell, John Schugart, Heather Barleen, Chad Meitner, James P. Meitner, Stacy Meitner, Robert Meitner, Cory Meitner, and 23 great-grandchildren.
Loyola was preceded in passing by three brothers — Arnold Reichuber, Ed Reichuber, and Leo Reichuber, and by two sisters; Marie Reichuber and Amelia Hertach.
Vigil with Altar Society Rosary is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will start at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington with Father Anselm Eke officiating. Interment will be at St. Ann Cemetery, Olmitz.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, 415 N. Main, Hoisington. Memorial Funds may be directed to the Clara Barton Foundation, in care of Nichol-son-Ricke Funeral Home.
