Margaret Iola Tammen, 92, died June 27 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. Born July 15, 1918 in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Charles Leslie and Helen Irene (Mayes) Naylor. On Aug. 24, 1941 she married August Herman "Gus" Tammen in Great Bend. He died July 2, 2001. A lifetime resident of Barton County, she was a homemaker and farm wife. She was very active in and committed to her church and family. She was involved in her children’s activities, especially loving their 4-H projects, enjoying quilting, playing cards and her coffee group.
Mrs. Tammen was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Peace Lutheran Church Women and was a Sunday school teacher, all in Albert and was a member of Hillside EHU.
Survivors include a son, Ron Tammen and wife Jo of Pawnee Rock; two daughters, Rhonda Tutak and husband Allen of Hays and Reva Dougherty and husband Dick of Great Bend; seven grandchildren, Kelly Tammen, Camille McCoy, Cal Tammen, Kyle Tutak, Kalie Tutak, Lori Strecker, and Stacy Dougherty; and eight great-grandchildren, Cade McCoy, Megan McCoy, Jenna Tammen, Cooper Tammen, Taylor Tutak, Lidia Strecker, Jai Strecker, and Harley Dougherty. She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Andrew Wirtz; and one sister, Betty Peschka.
A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at Peace Lutheran Church in Albert with Father Steve Little officiating. Burial will be at the Peace Lutheran Church Cemetery in Albert. Friends may visit from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
