Marjorie Ann Garrett, 80, of Great Bend, passed away Oct. 18. She was born Jan. 3, 1930, in Clarks, Neb., the daughter of Loyd and Lillie Peck. She married W. Mark Garrett Nov. 28, 1948, at Archer, Neb. She moved from Lincoln, Neb., to Great Bend in 1959 and became an active member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed many years teaching Sunday School. She was honored by the United Methodist Women for her years of service to the church. She was a supporter of youth activities in the community, being both a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader and was active in promoting and assisting with the Junior Golf Program at Lake Barton. She was awarded a lifetime membership to the PTA from Park School for her years of participation in the school.

She was an avid golfer and longtime member of the Ladies Golf Association of Lake Barton Golf Club, Great Bend Petroleum Club, Golden Belt Country Club and StoneRidge Country Club. She won the Kansas State Women’s Golf Association 9-hole tournament in 1968. She was a loyal fan of the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers. Through the years, she loved entertaining for her family and friends and will be remembered for her genuinely warm and radiant smile.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Marjorie is survived by her husband Mark, of the home; two daughters: Deborah McGreevy and husband Bob, Pratt, and Penelope Pinkston and husband Chris, Radium; two sons: Rickard "Rick" Garrett and wife Karen, and Timothy Garrett and wife Lynda, all of Great Bend; one sister, Virginia Kucera, Cheyenne, Wyo.; nine grandchildren: Haley Kern and husband Peter, Greensburg; Abby McGreevy, Hays; Tiffany Dick and husband Bob, Wichita; Jason Pinkston and wife Beth, Larned; Brandon Garrett and wife Amanda, Lincoln, Neb.; Kelsey Scheuerman and husband Todd, Great Bend; Logan Garrett and wife Dru, Great Bend; Tina Lamb and husband Scott, Great Bend; and Jennifer Garrett, Eugene, Ore.; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Donald Peck.

Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, Great Bend. The Rev. Tom Sheldon will officiate. Friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., today at Bryant Funeral Home. Private family inurnment will be in Great Bend Cemetery at a later date. Memorials in Mrs. Garrett’s name have been established with First United Methodist Church or the CKMC Foundation to benefit the Heartland Cancer Center.
