Mary E. Garner, age 77, passed away on Jan. 28, 2020 at River Bend Assisted Living, Great Bend, Kan. She was born on Dec. 14, 1942 at Junction City, Kan, the daughter of Virgil and Willa Mae (Teem) Springfeldt. Mary received her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from Fort Hays Kansas State College in 1964. She taught school at WaKeeney and St. John, was a First Responder/Ambulance Driver, worked for the Kansas Fish and Game Commission, Pratt, Kan., was a Stafford County Dispatcher and resident of St. John since 1966. She was a past member of Rebekah’s Lodge and Busy Mother’s Club.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Garner (Leslie), Auburn, Kan., Tom Garner (Sabrena), St. John, Kan.; three brothers, Michael Springfeldt, Columbus, Ohio, Matt Springfeldt, Rockledge, Fla., Mark Springfeldt (Sandy) Great Bend, Kan.; a sister, Martha Cheshire (Ed), Great Bend, Kan.; three grandchildren, Bryce Garner (Janae), St. John, Kan., Lance Garner (fiancé Kaitlyn Mummey), Auburn, Kan., Miranda Gleason (Aaron), Frankfort, Kan.; a great grandchild, Lily Garner, St. John, Kan. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Margaret Ann Springfeldt.
Visitation will be on Friday, Jan. 31, 2020 from 1-7 p.m. at Minnis Chapel, St. John with family present from 5-7 p.m. Rosary will begin at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020 at 10 a.m. at St. John The Apostle Catholic Church, St. John, Kan., with Father Michael Klag, Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John, Kan. Memorials may be given to the Stafford County EMS in care of Minnis Chapel, St. John, KS 67576.
